The parish in Dombrowken was founded by the owners of the Schlieben family at the beginning of the 17th century.
In 1607, Dombrowken became a Lutheran church village.
The parish church was rebuilt in 1732. Originally on the wind vane located on the tower: the date was 1732.
The church patronage was the responsibility of individual owners of the local estates.
Services were held in German, until 1824 in Polish, and until 1844 in Lithuanian.
Before 1945, the few Catholics in the village belonged to the former Warmia diocese. After 1945, Dąbrówka became a subsidiary Catholic parish for the parish in Budry.
The description of the original interior of the church has been preserved:
“The interior is simple. Side aisles with a flat wooden ceiling, in the central aisle are vaulted with wooden boards. The altar is connected to the pulpit. There is a retable carved out of an octagon piercing through the altar; at the corners are Corinthian sinusoidal columns decorated with vine leaves; on the sides, in a circular arch, stand the figures of the Savior and the Apostles.
Two slender Ionic columns adorned with vine leaves on the pedestals flank the pulpit and erect an ornamented entablature above it. Next to them are widely spread shoots with hovering angels. Two half-dead evangelists stand on either side. On the second floor, smaller, winding Corinthian columns, decorated with vine leaves, support the directional, ornamental entablature. In their center there is a bell cover. Decors with angels etc. The low third storey with a pediment contains various figures and is crowned with a crucifix with two shepherds. A beautifully carved altar cabinet.”
Inside, the stained glass windows in the nave behind the altar, made by Ferdinand Muller from Quedlinburg in Saxony, have been funded by Klara and Kurt von Sanden from Ołownik on the occasion of a silver wedding on June 7, 1905.
In front of the main altar there is a tombstone with four bronze lion heads with ring-shaped handles. Coat of arms of the Schliebensch family.
“Anno 1605 On February 4, between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., he was born
noble-born Mr. Ditrich von Schlieben, heir of Nordenburg,
Truntlack, Dombrowken who died on August 29, Anno 1653 around 9 a.m. in Dombrowken, and his body was buried on February 25, Anno 1654.
God, give the Body a quiet rest in the ground, and on the last day
blessed resurrection to eternal life. “
Behind the church there is a cemetery where we can find, among others, the graves of the church’s benefactors:
Marriages of Klara and Kurt von Sanden and Emilia Voigdt née Fahrenheid and her husband Dr. Ferdinand Voigdt.
